Last Saturday (13th) all the youth board were at the museum for our monthly meeting. We had a really great day and spent the morning and early afternoon learning about conservation in museum and how to do object handling. We identified the safe places to pick up and hold objects, learned about how objects can be best conserved and protected from time.
After this we took a trip down to the stores where we had a look at some old Egyptian masks and an English canoe which may have been a coffin. The canoe/coffin was found in the Manchester ship canal, Barton area and is likely to be a feature in our next project. We have been asked to create and plan an entire exhibition for the main entrance foyer of the museum that will open in march. It this is an amazing opportunity and we are all really excited about it.
Soon to come are updates on our Winter Festivals big Saturday and our consultation at John Rylands library next week.
